Easter Sunday presents a dilemma for a young, non-religious couple. Do we celebrate Easter? Do we treat it just like any other Sunday? One advantage to starting our own family is that we get to decide what traditions we continue, forget and start. Growing up my family would celebrate the religious aspects of Easter, but I don't ever remember having an Easter basket filled with goodies.
Will an unhealthy obsession with candy, and the joy I get from being creative and crafty I decided that we are going to have "Easter baskets" - but we'll do them in the spirit of Eostra, the pagan goddess of spring and fertility(who Easter was originally started for). We'll celebrate the blooming flowers, the baby animals, and the hope for warmer weather.
Especially the warmer weather.
