CRAFTY PEOPLE I NEED YOUR HELP!

Attention: All crafty people. Please help me!

I found this fabric and it was love at first sight. I wanted to make a cute jumper/dress for my niece on the way. It obviously isn't finished because as soon as I got to this point the next image won't leave my mind ....

It looks like one of the outfits from The Sound of Music. For those of you who haven't seen it, Maria (Julie Andrews) makes the children matching outfits out of old drapes.

Now I am stuck. I don't know what do to. I refuse to let my niece wear a "Sound of Music" outfit. But, I love the fabric too much to throw it away. I need advice on how to alter/change/add to this to make it adorable. I think I'll ditch this collar - but still not sure if I should just finish the edge or add a different one? I also think it needs an accent color. Maybe purple?

HELP!!!

  1. Bahahaha! That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it too... and let me tell you, Troy would absolutely not allow it. He HATES The Sound of Music. HATES it. I wonder if another color of shirt/blouse would help? Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be adorable, and I am super impressed with your skills. I haven't been brave enough to even take my machine out of the box yet!

  2. I am no pro. So don't even take this advice if you don't like it! But whenever I am in need of a change with my clothes/projects I add ruffles/flowers/whatevs to the hem/waist. But like I said... I don't know what I am saying. :)

  3. hahahahaha I think it's darling. I dunno why you guys are so funny about it. But like Holly said -- add some ruffles or lace of some sort. Make a white eyelet blouse -- maybe peasant style with the elastic neck and puffed sleeves.

  4. I don't if you ever finished this or not, but if you add the skirt to a white bodice (sans collar) and then have her wear a contrasting cardigan it will resemble nothin like the sound of music. I love that fabric too.
